A Very Rare WW2 British Longines COSD "Tuna Can" Watch Circa 1944-45
A very rare oppourtunity to acquire one of these very rare WW2 British Longines COSD "Tuna Can" Watches Circa 1944-45, the watch is in overall very good condition, with some tarnishing to the outer case and a slight crack is the glass. The face of the watch is still in excellent condition and that is still in working condition and winds nicely, however, any future owner of this should invest in a good clean and service, as the watch has been sitting in a storage box for the last 30 years.
These watces were originally thought to have been produced for British WW2 special forces and paratroopers for use during D-Day and Operation Market Garden. There is however new thoeries stating it was designed and issued for use by specialist underwater demolition teams.The markings on the case back, C.O.S.D, stands for “Combined Operations Stores Depot”.
The Combined Operations Command was established in 1940 by Winston Churchill immediately after the evacuation of Dunkirk and its sole objective was to undertake offensive operations against the enemy via a combination of land, sea and air forces.
